Questions people actually ask
Where do locals actually go out?
Less South Beach than you’d think. The locals’ night runs through Brickell and Wynwood — cocktail bars, rooftops, places where the music lets you talk until it doesn’t. South Beach still owns the big-club night, and locals show up for that too — just deliberately, not by default.
What time does nightlife actually start?
Late — calibrate accordingly. Dinner at 9, bars fill after 11, clubs don’t make sense before midnight, and nobody who knows the city arrives at LIV at 10:30. If you’re out at 8pm you’re at happy hour, which Miami also does well — just know which night you’re in.
Do I need a table?
For the big clubs, a table is the difference between a great night and a line — if you’re a group and it’s a birthday-tier night, split one; it’s how the room actually works. For bars and lounges, no — walk in, and get there before 11 if you want seats. The move most visitors miss: great bar first, club after midnight, table only when the night earns it.
What’s the dress code situation?
Miami dress code is real but simple: look intentional. Clubs will turn away shorts, athletic wear, and flip-flops — collared shirt or a clean fit gets you in everywhere. Bars are relaxed. The rule of thumb: dress for the photo you’ll want, and when in doubt, better shoes.
