Miami Beach Pride is a nine-day celebration that brings together the LGBTQ+ community, allies, and supporters. From April 2 to April 14, 2024, Miami Beach will be buzzing with special events, entertainment, and vibrant energy. Centrally located just steps from Miami Beach Pride, The Gabriel South Beach is a boutique property comprising four buildings designed to blend art deco modernism with tropical allure, creating a lively yet functional space for guests to stay while honoring the LGBTQ+ community. On April 13, The Gabriel and Meet Dalia will host a Lesbian Pride Pool Party with She Life Events from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. to kick off Miami Beach Pride. Right in the center of the Miami Beach Pride festivities is The Betsy, a 130-room, family-owned and operated, independent luxury oceanfront boutique resort located within the South Beach Art Deco District. The Betsy Hotel is celebrating Miami Beach Pride this year with month-long programming:

  • Saturday, April 6, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: B Bar will host Three Martini Afternoon, a special celebration for female and female-identifying fans of poets Sylvia Plath and Ann Sexton.

  • Friday, April 12 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m: This week’s Overture to Overtown, The Betsy’s weekly jazz series, will celebrate PRIDE with vocalist Envee accompanied by Kevin Maddox on piano, and poetry by Rebecca Butterfly Vaughs throughout the evening. Hosted by Kunya Rowley, Founder and Director of Hued Songs, the event will be held at the Iris Photo Collective.

  • Saturday, April 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m: the Cuban-born vocalist Envee will join The Betsy’s live jazz artist-in-residence with a performance at the hotel’s Piano Bar on

  • Sunday, April 14:
    • The Betsy façade and The Betsy Poetry Rail will be illuminated with rainbow lights at 14 st. and 14 pl. at sundown.

    • Co-presented by the Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series with The Betsy’s Overture to Overtown Jazz Series, guests can close out Miami Beach Pride with an oceanside concert featuring the singer-songwriter Envee at 5 p.m.

  • April 17 – 20: Poet Dr. L. Lamar Wilson will be in residence in The Betsy Writer’s Room. L. Lamar Wilson has received fellowships from, among others, the Cave Canem, Civitella Ranieri, Ragdale, and Hurston-Wright foundations and the Florida Education Fund. He holds an MFA from Virginia Tech and a doctorate in African American and multiethnic-American poetics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Wilson’s work centers the voices and experiences of Black and Brown folk, particularly femmes, thriving in the rural South despite relentless, centuries-long homegrown terrorism. After nearly 18 years of award-winning editing in several of the nation’s top newsrooms, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, and appointments at Davidson College, the University of Alabama, and Wake Forest University, Wilson teaches creative writing, literature, and film studies at Florida State University.
