Red Rooster Overtown, the acclaimed Overtown restaurant presented by Marcus Samuelsson, Derek Fleming & Michael Simkins, pays homage to Martin Luther King Jr. Day by partnering up with Overtown Youth Center & Alonzo Mourning Foundation. On Monday, January 15 at 11:30AM a cooking demo led by head chef Charles Page will take place, showcasing to the members of the Overtown Youth Center the essence of self-reliance, creativity, and health consciousness. A discussion by a local jazz artist follows, shining the light on the significant role of music in the cultural heritage of Overtown, acknowledging its status as a Miami Cultural Center. The event culminates with an enlightening tour showcasing the artwork at Red Rooster, highlighting the historical importance of the Pool Hall building and the connections this venue holds to Dr. King, a place where he frequently gathered and organized.
From Friday, January 12 – Monday, January 15 Red Rooster will also serve a curated a la carte menu commemorating MLK’s civil rights movement that includes their take on Southern food including Lamb Gnocchi Bolognese ($28), Smokey Fried Quail ($25), Seafood Gumbo ($21), BBQ Scottish Salmon ($36), and Dry Rubbed Smoked St. Louis Cut Ribs ($36), and Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie.
