Miami’s Wynwood Arts District is set to welcome thousands of visitors and fintech industry leaders for the largest Bitcoin event in the history of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin 2021, from June 4-5, 2021 at Wynwood’s Mana Convention Center. Keynote speakers like CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, and City of Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez, will congregate in South Florida’s hub for arts, technology, and innovation. Wynwood has successfully grown from a largely abandoned industrial district to a bustling, arts-focused neighborhood with the largest collection of street art in the country. Today, the burgeoning neighborhood boasts a mix of edgy retail, award-winning eateries, breweries, and state-of-the-art residential developments, offering Miami’s true live, work, and play destination.
“Wynwood’s tech scene has grown exponentially in the past decade and being selected to host the largest Bitcoin conference to date solidifies the neighborhood’s evolution into South Florida’s hub for artists and innovators,” said Albert Garcia, Chairman and Co-founder of the Wynwood BID. “Wynwood’s residents and businesses have shown their resiliency in the face of this pandemic, and we are ready to safely welcome back visitors for the first major in-person event in the last 16 months. Conference attendees will enjoy the unique, open-air offerings of the Wynwood Arts District- from our colorful streets to our internationally recognized culinary and brewery scene.”
The relocation of the Bitcoin 2021 Conference from Los Angeles to Miami builds on the news of the growing number of tech and financial companies moving to Wynwood including venture capital funds, Founders Fund and Atomic, start-up OpenStore, audio streaming giant, Spotify and PayPal’s former CEO’s latest fintech venture, Nirvana. After being postponed last year due to COVID-19 safety concerns, the Bitcoin 2021 Conference will take over Wynwood’s Mana Convention Center. The six-acre convention center will bring together keynote speakers that in addition to Mayor Suarez and Mr. Dorsey, include cryptocurrency leaders, notable national elected officials, and enthusiasts to celebrate one of the world’s fast-growing technologies.
“We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome the City of Miami and Wynwood has offered our growing community,” said Pat Riley, Creative Director of BTC Inc., organizer of Bitcoin 2021 Conference. “We are excited to tap into the local ecosystem and the area’s brilliant art scene to give our attendees a taste of Wynwood and the wonderful opportunities the neighborhood has to offer innovators.”
“BitBasel is about empowering local artists through blockchain technology,” said Scarlett Arana, Cofounder at BitBasel. “Graffiti and street art are staples of Miami’s art culture, specifically in Wynwood, where entrepreneurs and companies from the cryptocurrency ecosystem are flocking to by the day. We’re excited to continue working with the local community to experiment at the cutting edge of art and technology.”
Staying true to the neighborhood’s character, organizers and one of its local partners, BitBasel, have commissioned area artists to create a 120″ mural that showcases the history of currency, its evolution through time, and the impact of digital currency has had in the past couple of years. Local artists and organizers will be displaying the community mural outside the Mana Convention Center from June 3-4. Conference organizers have also partnered with local entities to provide conference attendees, and bitcoin enthusiasts access to one-of-a-kind bitcoin activations and neighborhood-wide official satellite events. Official ancillary events include:
- DECENTRALIZATION AT THE LAB (May 31 – June 4): Providing South Florida community and fintech supporters with access to workshops discussing the decentralizing of traditional financial structures and the future Miami growing tech scene. The weeklong workshops are FREE and open to all interested. Keynote speakers include industry leaders and prominent elected officials. Small bites and beverages will be available to attendees.
