A night at Stylish Cuban fine-dining restaurant Larios on the Beach in the heart of South Beach

Last week we finally went to Larios on the Beach, Miami’s go-to destination for authentic Cuban cuisine, wonderful mojitos and the vibrant ambiance of South Beach’s Ocean Drive, brought to you by the Music legends Gloria and Emilio Estefan.

Larios on the Beach originally opened in 1992 and recently re-opened with newly designed interiors and a new health-conscious take on Cuban classics. The interior and ambiance of Larios is really cool and modern with an ocean theme. An array of sea shells and marine fossils are carefully placed on the walls by Emilio himself.

The restaurant with see-and-be-seen sidewalk seating has an outdoor café and espresso bar. Inside there is a cozy “lounge” seating area in the front, and an expansive bar where guests can nosh on scrumptious bar bites and enjoy a unique selection of refreshing beverages including hand-crafted cocktails.

Walking in, the hosts and waiters are friendly and welcoming. Before dinner we had drinks in the lounge to try out Larios “world-famous mojitos! Once seated, we were immediately served cold water and garlic bread, it was a great start to the meal.

The menu of Larios on the Beach
On the menu at Larios on the Beach you find traditional Cuban dishes like ceviche (I LOVE ceviche!), ropa vieja, arroz con pollo but the menu also includes some items that put a contemporary twist on Cuban classics.

To kick off a review about Cuban food, we have to start with the Ceviche. At Larios — it’s a masterful mix made with the freshest Corvina in lime juice, red onions, cilantro & mild jalapeno peppers served with healthy crispy plantain chips on the side. Other appetizers included the avocado salad served with tomato, red onion & diced cucumber, tossed in a cilantro lime vinaigrette which was like a perfect concert inside your mouth. We found ourselves getting excited for dinner once we devoured this first course.

A new feature to Larios menu is The Triple C: “Calorie Conscious Cuban”. It’s a selection of delicious, guilt-free Cuban staples created by Gloria herself. We ordered the healthy grilled fresh grouper which was cooked to perfection, served with Larios famous black beans and gluten free whole grain rice.

Larios on the Beach Dessert… yum!
The dessert menu at Larios is a collection of famous cuban desserts ranging from traditional Cuban style rice pudding or homemade cake to a refreshing selection of Cuban ice creams By Azucar Ice Cream Company from Miami’s Little Havana. A Larios favourite, the Flan Tradicional traditional Cuban style custard topped with caramel, takes centre stage amongst the sweet indulgences. It was also beautifully presented with sprinkled edible flowers on top.
