W South Beach’s floating runway was graced by Halima Aden, the first SI model to wear a hijab and burkini, a 55-year-old model, a fitness instructor with alopecia and a former dancer with an undiagnosed illness that has weakened her ability to walk.

July 14, 2019—The 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Runway Show takes over W South Beach
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit hosted the 2019 runway show during Miami Swim Week at W South Beach. The runway showcased a lineup of women who stand for important issues donning socially conscious swimwear looks by designers who encourage and promote sustainability, inclusivity and philanthropy.
The runway show opened with hijab wearing model, Halima Aden in a custom designed burkini by Cynthia Rowley that read “DON’T CHANGE YOURSELF, CHANGE THE GAME”, setting the tone for the show.

July 12, 2019 – The Sports Illustrated Second Annual in-person Casting
Leading up to the runway show, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit (SI) returned for the second year to W South Beach and held their annual open casting call at the W South Beach, providing for both new and established models to meet with the SI Swimsuit team and show why they would be a great addition to the issue hitting stands in 2020.
The SI Swimsuit team selected 16 Model Search Finalists who graced the runway alongside the 2019 Model Search Winner and fellow SI Swimsuit models.
SI known for body inclusivity and breaking boundaries with its print content had models from this year’s SI Swimsuit issue mentor, interview and deliberate with the model search contestants to help them throughout the process.
July 12, 2019 – Sports Illustrated Swimsuit x W South Beach Host Miami Swim Week Kickoff Party at the Legends Lounge
The Legends Lounge at W South Beach’s LAWN treated VIP’s and models to a topical Swim Week welcome revelry under the moonlight with beats, libations by Duke Spirits, La Adelita Tequila, Provacativo and flavored seltzer waters by La Croix. The LAWN was decked with Funboy floats for photo moments in and around the space. MJ Day and Myla Dalbesio floated in Funboy floats in W South Beach’s Mini WET pool.
