Inarguably one of the hippest new restaurants in Wynwood, Beaker & Gray – which has been packing them in since it opened December 2015 – will begin serving lunch on Monday, March 14, 2016. And if the dinner demand is an indication, lunch at Beaker & Gray should quickly become one of the hottest tables in town.
Since chef/co-owner Brian Nasajon’s lucky number is five – and he’s not looking to tempt fate – he has loaded each one of the lunch menu’s categories with five tempting choices. If desired, lunch goers can enjoy a different dish every day with the menu offered Monday – Friday. Salads ($12-$14) include the signature B&G Salad (field greens, avocado, hearts of palm, queso fresco and cilantro lime dressing) and Mizzuna with glass noodle, tiger shrimp, chayote, celery and tangerine. Sandwiches ($14-$16) are sure to be big sellers with options ranging from Tempura Grouper with pickled shallots and Bahn Mi with smoke pork pâté, gruyere, chili aioli and pickled watermelon rind toChivito, a sandwich unique to Uruguay, from which Nasajon hails. It is comprised of wagyu skirt steak, chimichurri aioli, Oaxaca cheese and a fried egg.
Bowls ($14-$21) come as is or can be adorned with shrimp, chicken or wagyu skirt steak. Examples: Cilantro Ricewith braised short rib, tempura avocado, baby heirloom tomato and curry bbq and Roots and Spuds – wagyu skirt, grilled onions, fried egg and huancaina. Sides ($7) round out the menu, including Loaded Fries with bacon vinaigrette and Wild Mushrooms with Asian pear and thyme.
In keeping with Beaker & Gray’s rep as a top tier watering hole, for lunch co-owner and bar master Ben Potts has created a succinct list of refreshing libations ($8-$12). Options include Rosé Colored Glasses (rosé, watermelon, rosemary, elderflower soda); B&G Michelada (Pacifico, sweet soy, Cholula, mezcal, habanero shrub) and Day Off Shandy (Sixpoint Crisp; Cointreau, pineapple oleo, grapefruit soda). A selection of beers and wines by the glass are also available.
Beaker & Gray is located at 2637 North Miami Avenue in Wynwood. Lunch is served Monday through Friday,Noon to 4PM; dinner from 5PM to Midnight. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday, 4PM-7PM & Mondaythrough Thursday, Midnight to 2AM.
