Shops at Merrick Park, South Florida’s premier open-air shopping destination, announces the return of “Los Trompos” (Spanish for “spinning tops”). Having captivated audiences in Paris, New York, and Mexico City, this celebrated installation will transform the center’s elegant courtyards from February 7 through March 17, 2025. Eight vibrant, larger-than-life art pieces will create a sophisticated playground where art, culture, and style converge.
Created by celebrated Mexican designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena, each piece features traditional Mexican-woven textiles that create a striking contrast against the center’s Mediterranean architecture. Visitors can sit within the woven structures while friends give them a gentle spin, or simply relax in these sculptural seats that double as functional art, offering a perfect blend of artistry and entertainment between shopping and dining experiences.

The installation seamlessly blends artistic expression with social gathering, transforming everyday shopping moments into memorable experiences. Groups can gather in the spinning tops for intimate conversations, friends can take turns spinning each other, families can create playful moments together, and photographers will discover endless opportunities to capture stunning images amid the vibrant designs. Each top becomes its own social space, inviting visitors to experience art in a way that has captivated audiences at prestigious venues worldwide.
Located in the heart of Coral Gables at 358 San Lorenzo Avenue, visitors can experience Los Trompos during regular center hours. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
