Yamashiro Miami is a Japanese rooftop restaurant on the ninth floor of the Gale Miami Hotel & Residences in Downtown Miami. It opened October 2025 as the first expansion of the 1914 Hollywood landmark outside Los Angeles. Open-air dining with skyline views, garden pathways, and a pagoda bar, alongside the 400 Club and 400 Vinyl Room.
Come for the room and the view, order narrow, and stay for what happens after 10 p.m. This is Miami’s most theatrical rooftop dining room, and it knows it — the entrance sequence alone is worth the elevator ride. The kitchen is capable but uneven; the drinking and the setting are where Yamashiro is unambiguously good.
The 114-year-old Hollywood original is a pagoda on a hill above Los Angeles, and Boulevard Hospitality didn’t try to shrink it into a Miami box. They shipped a 600-year-old temple door and built garden pathways, koi water, and a pagoda bar on the ninth floor of the Gale — the arrival is a walk through greenery before the skyline opens up. Most Miami rooftops give you the view immediately and have nothing left. This one makes you earn it, which is the difference between a rooftop and a room.

The wagyu and the steak katsu sando are where the kitchen actually asserts itself. Skip the polite openers — the edamame and cucumber salads are filler.
When to go: Wednesday through Sunday, doors at 5. Book 7:30 for the light — the skyline turns and the garden lighting comes up during your first course. After 10 the DJ programming starts and the room converts; if you want a conversation, you’re eating early. If you want the night, you’re staying late. Both are correct. Don’t do the middle.
The move nobody tells you: the ninth floor is now two venues. Yamashiro is the restaurant and 400 Vinyl Room is a 50-seat vinyl-only listening lounge — funk, soul, disco, ’80s Latin, guest selectors, no bottle service. Dinner at Yamashiro into 400 Vinyl Room is the best downtown night in the building and almost nobody outside the industry is running it. Vinyl Room is small and reservation-recommended — book it when you book dinner.
