The 13th edition of Untitled Art, Miami Beach, concluded on Sunday, December 8, marking another milestone in the evolution of this dynamic art fair. With 176 exhibitors from 34 countries, the 2024 fair expanded its global reach, presenting a compelling curatorial theme, “East Meets West.” Led by Guest Curators Kathy Huang and Jungmin Cho, the event brought to life a vibrant dialogue between global cultures, culminating in the largest-ever representation of artists and galleries from the East during Miami Art Week. This achievement reinforced Untitled Art’s role as a key platform for international collaboration and exchange.

Held from December 4 to 8, with a VIP and Press Preview on December 3, the fair drew record-breaking attendance, attracting collectors, museum directors, curators, and art enthusiasts from across the globe. A standout feature was the expansion of the ‘Nest’ sector, dedicated to supporting emerging galleries. This initiative highlighted the fair’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, creating opportunities for underrepresented voices in the art world.

East Meets West: A Curatorial Triumph

Galleries embracing the “East Meets West” theme showcased groundbreaking experimentation and conceptual approaches. The response from collectors and institutions was overwhelmingly positive, with many exhibitors reporting strong sales. Among the galleries achieving significant success were ALMA PEARL (London, UK), Gallery 1957 (Accra, Ghana / London, UK), Rajiv Menon Contemporary (Los Angeles, CA), TERN Gallery (Nassau, The Bahamas), and COHJU (Kyoto, Japan), among others. These successes underscore the strength of the mid-market and the increasing appeal of cross-cultural artistic narratives.

Prizes and Recognition

The fair’s dedication to supporting exhibitors and artists was further reflected in its awarding of eight prizes. Vortic, returning as a Digital and Prize Partner, presented a curated digital exhibition aligned with the “East Meets West” theme. Among the awardees were:

  • Shu Okamoto for The Screen with the Sudare (2022), presented by COHJU (Kyoto, Japan).
  • Jhonatan Pulido for Papayo (2024), presented by ALMA PEARL (London, UK).
  • Tarini Sethi, exploring the digital space through Rajiv Menon Contemporary (Los Angeles, CA).

The Best Booth Prize went to Pi Artworks (London, UK / Istanbul, Turkey) for Jyll Bradley’s solo presentation Within a Budding Grove, a compelling exploration of “queering minimalism.” Additional prizes included residencies and acquisitions by prominent institutions such as 21c Museum Hotels and the Pardon Collection.

Special Projects and Performances

  • Reynier Leyva Novo’s Federal Cleaning (2024), presented by El Apartamento (La Habana, Cuba / Madrid, Spain) and acquired by esteemed collectors Darlene and Jorge M. Pérez.

The program also featured six performances and over 14 panel discussions as part of the Untitled Art Podcast and editorial platforms. Notable speakers included Patrick Charpenel (El Museo del Barrio), designer Anamika Khanna, and Max Durón (2023 Rabkin Prize winner).
