What does it take to bring a Pixar character to life? Discover the science behind the screen, then put it into action at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Downtown Miami.

Opening Saturday, October 10, The Science Behind Pixar explores how science, technology, engineering and math help bring beloved Pixar films to life. With the museum’s new Animator Pass, the discoveries continue beyond the exhibition. Created by the Frost Science team and included with admission, this museum-wide experience challenges guests to think like animators and explore how the concepts behind their favorite Pixar films connect to real-world science.

Look for special activities throughout the museum’s exhibitions as you explore surfacing in different environments with WALL-E and EVE in Power of Science, investigate lighting with Buzz Lightyear in the Vizlab of the Frost Planetarium, and experiment with how simulation uses physics inspired by the balloons from Up in Feathers to the Stars.

And keep your eyes open in the Aquarium! You’ll also be able to search for 13 species featured in Finding Nemo, including some of our most recognizable animal ambassadors.

Pick up your Animator Pass at the museum entrance, complete the activities as you explore, then bring your finished pass to the Science Store for a Pixar-themed prize.

Ready to think like an animator? Plan your visit to Frost Science and discover how creativity and science come together, on screen and throughout the museum.

The Science Behind Pixar is on view through Sunday, April 11, 2027. The exhibition was developed by the Museum of Science, Boston in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios. © 2026 Disney/Pixar.
