Smorgasburg Miami, the city’s largest and most beloved open-air food market, is taking a well-deserved break this September to refresh and revamp its space. The market, which has continuously operated for 2.5 years, will temporarily close for the month after their End of Summer Luau on August 31. A reopening is set for Saturday and Sunday, September 28th and 29th.
The decision to take a break comes as part of Smorgasburg’s commitment to continually elevating the experience for its visitors. “We’ve been operating non-stop for the last couple of years and wanted to use this small break in September to make Smorgasburg the most exciting it’s ever been,” says Gaston Becherano, owner of Smorgasburg Miami. “We’re also in the thick of new tastings as we get ready to reopen with some really exciting new vendors.”
As part of this refresh, Smorgasburg Miami is opening up opportunities for a select few new vendors to join the family. The team will be accepting five (5) new vendors who bring something unique to Miami’s culinary scene and community. Whether they are the best in class at their specific cuisine, chefs who aspire to open their own restaurants, or passionate F&B entrepreneurs looking to grow their business, Smorgasburg wants to hear from them. In addition to new vendors, during the break, the Smorgasburg space will receive some TLC, including enhancements that promise to make the market even more inviting. Guests can expect updates such as the introduction of food trucks, additional seating, more shaded areas and fresh landscaping with more trees. These changes aim to enrich the overall experience, providing guests with an even better environment to enjoy the diverse culinary offerings of Miami.
Before closing, Smorgasburg will host a Hui Hou! End of Summer Luau on August 31 from 2pm-10pm. Fittingly, a Hui Hou is a Hawaiian farewell meaning “until we meet again.” The event will celebrate the end of the season and build excitement for all that’s to come in the fall. There will be live music from 7pm-10pm as well as other entertainment and vendor specials throughout the night.
