Miami’s dining scene just got even more exciting with the grand opening of Matsuyoi, the latest venture from Lisa Limb, Taka Sakaeda, and Jihan Lee—the visionary team behind Launchpad Hospitality. Known for their acclaimed Japanese temaki restaurant Nami Nori and the beloved Postcard bakery and bubble tea shop, the trio now brings their signature style and culinary expertise to Miami’s Design District.

Located at 156 NE 41st St, Miami, FL, Matsuyoi arrives hot on the heels of Nami Nori Design District, which opened at the end of 2024. Both projects are in collaboration with none other than Pharrell Williams, adding an extra layer of star power to this already buzzworthy concept.

A Multi-Course Journey Through Japanese Flavors

Matsuyoi takes diners on a carefully curated culinary experience, offering a seasonally rotating, multi-course menu led by Chef Takahiro Sakaeda. Known for his refined approach to Japanese cuisine, Sakaeda builds upon the beloved open-style temaki that has made Nami Nori a household name.

Guests can expect elevated starters such as Potato Pavé with caviar and ao nori and the unique Matsuyoi Caesar with bottarga and hallabong vinegar. The temaki selection is equally enticing, featuring Toro Caviar, Madai Shiso, and Anago Cucumber. To finish on a sweet note, the Tropical Sundae—made with Hokkaido milk ice cream and hojicha ‘pocky’—delivers a perfectly balanced, indulgent finale.

A Hidden Lounge with Exquisite Sake and Cocktails

Beyond the dining counter, Matsuyoi unveils an intimate cocktail bar and lounge, offering a sophisticated selection of sake, wine, and innovative cocktails infused with Japanese flavors. Standout drinks include:

  • Ginga Martini – UNA Vodka, KID Junmai Daiginjo, rice, chili oil, with an optional caviar upgrade.
  • Between Strangers – Lemongrass Haku Vodka, pineapple, yuzu, uchiboro, honey, Suze, soy, and sesame.
  • Get Lucky – Roku Gin, Midori, nigori, yuzuco sudachi, and soju.

Rare and premium sakes—such as Katsuyama Den, Akabu Gokujo No Kire, and Kuheiji ‘The Flagship’ 2023—round out the beverage program, ensuring an unparalleled drinking experience.

A Seductive Design Inspired by Moonlit Japan

The name Matsuyoi comes from the Japanese characters Matsu (to wait) and Yoi (evening), evoking the anticipation of a special arrival on a quiet, moonlit night. Inspired by the breathtaking woodblock prints of Kawase Hasui, Matsuyoi’s design transports guests to a secluded seaside in Japan—a stark yet captivating contrast to the bright, beach-party ambiance of Nami Nori.

Designed by Lisa Limb in collaboration with MN Design Professional Corporation (renowned for their work on Tatiana, Crown Shy, and Cote), the intimate, 10-seat temaki counter is hidden behind sliding doors, offering an exclusive, immersive dining experience unlike any other in Miami.

Exclusive Reservations & Lounge Hours

Matsuyoi welcomes diners Wednesday through Saturday, offering two nightly seatings at 6:45 PM and 9:30 PM at the temaki counter. Reservations are available exclusively through OpenTable.

For those looking to sip and socialize, the cocktail lounge is open for walk-ins from 7:00 PM – 10:30 PM (Wednesday-Saturday), with a small bites menu debuting in the coming weeks.

Matsuyoi isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Whether indulging in perfectly crafted temaki, savoring rare sake, or soaking in the evocative design, guests are in for a night to remember. Miami, get ready to be enchanted.
