Superblue–Miami’s leading Experiential Art Company—is pleased to announce Alone Together, a temporary installation by postdigital art group Random International, which will debut on May 17, 2025. Marking Random International’s inaugural presentation at Superblue Miami, Alone Together will be the center’s first installation opening of 2025, offering visitors a compelling reason to return and explore its ever-evolving exhibition.

Evoking the interplay of presence and absence, Alone Together invites visitors into an unfolding choreography of light and space. Guests, moving through the installation, become both observers and participants, immersed in an environment that alternates between moments of solitude and collective experience.

Highlighting unsuspecting selected members of the audience with an intensely bright and focused array of light beams, the artwork causes the viewer to simultaneously experience the gratification of public attention together with the disorienting qualities of being caught in the spotlight. By algorithmically surveilling, selecting and tracking individual visitors, the entire interplay between space and audience is permanently shifting and distinctly outside of human control.

Conceived as an evolution of Random International’s continued exploration of technology’s role in shaping social behaviors, Alone Together builds upon the artists’ acclaimed history of experiential works. Founded in 2005 by Hannes Koch and Florian Ortkrass, the group creates environments that engage the senses while prompting introspection, questioning the boundaries between the individual and the collective, the digital and the physical, the human and the machine. Most recently, an outdoor version of Alone Together made its inaugural appearance at the 2024 Noor Riyadh Festival in Saudi Arabia.

“We are thrilled to welcome Random International to Superblue Miami for the first time with the presentation of Alone Together,” says Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Superblue. “At a time when technology shapes our connections more than ever, this installation offers a powerful reflection on the tension between isolation and togetherness in the modern world.”

Over the past two decades, Random International has developed experimental projects at the intersection of technology, creativity and the human condition that explore how humans and the environment connect. The art group is known worldwide for its large-scale interactive installations and experimentation with media such as sculpture, light, kinetics, video, print, and sound. Random International has captivated global audiences with groundbreaking works such as Rain Room, an interactive environment where visitors move through a simulated downpour without getting wet, exhibited at the Barbican, MoMA, LACMA and the Sharjah Art Foundation. Other notable projects include Fifteen Points, a kinetic light sculpture inspired by human movement, and collaborations with Wayne McGregor and the BMW Art Journey.

“The urge to feel seen is part of being human, and so is the anxiety that comes with that visibility. Alone Together is intended as an exploration of this innate contradiction which only intensifies amid our increasingly advanced technological landscape,” says Random International. “We look forward to seeing how U.S. audiences interact with the installation, Superblue is an incredible platform for experiential art, and we’re thrilled to collaborate on creating a moment of reflection and engagement for visitors in Miami.”

Random International joins James Turrell and Studio Lemercier in Superblue Miami’s exhibition program with a light-based installation that further challenges human perception by blurring the lines between the architectural and the intangible.
