The vibrant metropolis of Miami has become a brave new world of designer districts, internationally renowned art events, ‘starchitect’ landmarks, hip hotels, gallery-filled neighbourhoods and exclusive designer stores.

Known as “Magic City,” Miami plays tribute to this unprecedented growth, being recognized as “The Gateway to the Americas” and “The American Riviera”.

Much of this reinvention can be attributed to the annual Art Basel Miami. Since 2002, the good, the bad and the gaudy of the art world have been flooding into the city every December.

Miami is all about the next big thing. And the latest symbol of the city’s new cultural confidence is the $160 million Frank Gehry-designed New World Symphony building, which opened in January to house orchestral academies.

More traditional Miami nights see women in high heels and men with high hopes crowd white hot venues such as Liv in the Fontainebleau hotel.

Infinitely more human are Miami Beach’s lounge bars, such as the intimate basement B Bar at The Betsy, the wonderfully illuminated rooftop pool lounge at the Gansevoort or the warming fires of the Grove at the W.

The coolest thing of Miami is to stroll around South Beach with the highest concentration of Art Deco architecture in the world.

Beyond South Beach, the city is full of photogenic highlights.
