The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) is turning America’s 250th anniversary into an open invitation to explore, discover, and play with big ideas through America250: Celebrating American Innovation — a museum-wide adventure of the people and breakthroughs that have shaped how we understand the world.
Presented as part of the nationwide America250 commemoration and Miami-Dade County’s local America250 initiative, the experience invites guests of all ages on a journey across time and scientific frontiers. At its center is a sweeping poster exhibit featuring 250 American scientists, innovators, and changemakers. Acting like a trail map of discovery, it guides guests from ocean trenches to outer space, from early flight to modern medicine. Each story highlights how curiosity, experimentation, and collaboration have fueled progress and continue to push it forward.
On Saturday, June 6, during Frost Science’s annual World Ocean Day celebration, the adventure continues inside the immersive Frost Planetarium, where Frost Science Studios has created an original short film that feels like a guided expedition through scientific frontiers. Moving between marine science, paleontology, astronomy, and aeronautics, the film connects breakthroughs across fields, revealing how exploration has always been a shared human endeavor. The film, narrated by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, will also extend beyond the museum, reaching partner planetariums at Booker T. Washington and Hialeah Lakes High School.
That same day, in collaboration with local community partners, Frost Science will spotlight American oceanographers, engineers, and marine scientists whose work continues to push the boundaries of exploration beneath the waves.
Guests can take the experience further with an interactive Passport Program that turns the exhibition into a hands-on challenge. Guests “collect” insights as they explore, answering questions about featured innovators along the way. Completed passports can be redeemed for prizes at the Science Store, adding a playful sense of achievement to the journey.
Beyond the museum walls, the local program will reach audiences nationwide with a community resource guide that brings the stories of all 250 innovators to life for families, educators, and learners. Alongside it is a companion curriculum for grades 6-12 developed by Frost Science’s education team, helping bring these ideas into engaging classroom experiences across the region.
Together, these experiences transform America250 into something closer to a living map of curiosity that invites visitors to explore how far science has come and imagine where can go next. And there’s no better place to do it than Miami, a city built on connection, exploration, and forward-looking ideas.
