Able and Baker and A and B Food & Co. are thrilled to announce their stellar grand openings, launching into South Beach this March. Located in the heart of South Beach at 920 Alton Road, the bar, lounge, and restaurant are named after the first two monkeys to fly a successful U.S. mission to space in 1959. Able and Baker and A and B Food & Co. are a constellation of Miami and New York’s biggest names in nightlife and hospitality, curated by none other than nightlife trailblazer and Miami native Tatanka Guerrero (Orange Blossom, Sweetwater, Beer Garden, Radio Bar), in collaboration with business partner Luiz Fleury. Guerrero and Fleury have partnered with restaurateurs John McCarthy and Ryan Tate from The Crimson Sparrow in Hudson, NY to create A and B Food & Co., a kaiseki-style Japanese restaurant located within Able and Baker. The quest is to make the bar, lounge and restaurant an approachable, yet refined venue, catering to the local market with an emphasis on great service.

Inside the 4300 square-foot space the Miami influences are palpable. The design is a melting pot of rustic industrial art deco peppered with bohemian and tropical influences. The space reflects the creative vision of Guerrero and expertly crafted and realized by local design house Deft Union. Guests can expect custom Jamaican wicker chairs and lamp shades, polished concrete floors, charcoal brick walls and custom artwork by artist Jose Mertz that are out of this galaxy.

When entering Able and Baker you will find a hidden speakeasy. When most of us think of a speakeasy, we think of a hidden lounge in the rear of the space, but at Able and Baker you will find the exact opposite. Guerrero, light years ahead, has flipped the concept and carefully crafted the eclectic space to be a lounge and bar in the front, with A and B Food & Co. as a hidden restaurant in the rear of the space. The location creates an intimacy not found in Miami and at the same time provides a high energy atmosphere, resulting in a space that will offer an exceptional level of service to each guest and make for a special dining experience.

A and B Food & Co. was conceptualized by Guerrero along with partners McCarthy and Tate and is inspired by traditional Japanese kaiseki tasting menus, but with a few not-so-traditional twists. The menu and cuisine will highlight Japanese ingredients and flavors utilizing French techniques.  The chef partners have created a 6-course tasting menu that pays homage and respect to Japanese kaiseki dining traditions, but at the same time incorporates local ingredients sourced from Miami’s best farms and purveyors.  The tasting menu will include local produce, seafood and fish, including Hamachi, oysters and other shellfish.  Dishes including pork belly and wagyu may also be featured in the tasting menu as well.

The chefs have also developed a casual a la carte menu for Able and Baker, the bar and lounge space that adjoins the restaurant.  The a la carte menu will include innovative dishes based on Japanese izakaya dining.  Featured on the a la carte menu will be, among other things, A and B Food & Co.’s signature izakaya fried chicken with sesame mayo and a variety of innovative seafood dishes. To truly experience the a la carte offerings, A and B Food & Co. will be providing the ultimate happy hour menu inside The Happy Room.

Able and Baker is located at 920 Alton Road. Able and Baker’s hours of operation are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 6pm to 2am, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 6pm to 4am, and Sunday 6pm to 2am. A and B Food & Co.’s hours of operations are Tuesday and Wednesdays 6pm to 11pm, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 6pm to 12am, and Sunday 6pm to 11pm.
